Abstract

Pyogenic liver abscess is not commonly observed in the general population. However, it occurs fairly often in patients with diabetes mellitus and is commonly associated with other complications. Nevertheless, even in diabetic patients it is rare to find metastatic lesions from pyogenic liver abscess. Septic pulmonary emboli can arise from infectious lesions of peripheral vessels or from the right side of the heart. Septic embolism is different from non?septic embolism in its clinical course, and it requires an early diagnosis and timely treatment to achieve better prognosis. The authors saw a rare case of a diabetic patient with a pyogenic liver abscess complicated by pulmonary septic embolism and acute renal failure. (Korean J Med 74:S199-S202, 2008)
